What is on the CD-ROM
This CD-ROM is a complete guide to constructing, gating, tying-up, and weaving on a countermarch loom. It is designed for both novices and advanced weavers.

The program offers over 30 minutes of stop-action video instruction with clear details and comprehensive textual explanations which hyperlink to supplementary diagrams, videos, still images, and definitions.

The program has ten sections: Introduction, Tutorial, Anatomy, Tools, Assembly, Gating, Tie-Up, Problems, Glossary, and Help.

The Loom Anatomy diagram (see screenshot below) highlights as the mouse passes over key components. A list to the right of the diagram identifies what the mouse is selecting in the diagram. Clicking an item from the list will also highlight its corresponding part on the diagram. Clicking on a highlighted loom component in the diagram brings up more information about that component. The Gating section also uses stop-action, narrated video (see Flash demo -- broadband internet connection recommended) with descriptive text and contextual hyperlinks to show how to create the shaft assembly from a collection of jacks, shaft bars, lams, treadles, and string. It includes original techniques for assembling and leveling the shafts. It explains how to read the tie-up draft. It shows how to tie-up the treadles to the proper length. It shows how to balance the shafts so that they don’t drag on the warp but rather open to a proper shed. It also provides techniques to facilitate easier weaving on a countermarch loom.

The Tie-Up Diagram is a simplified sketch of the shaft assembly. It is hyperlinked to a tie-up draft as it would appear on graph paper in a book. The purpose of this diagram is to illustrate how a loom is expected to move when tied-up to the treadles, according to the X and O markings on the draft.
